Plagiarism Policy

JUIKTI is committed to maintaining originality, academic integrity, proper attribution, and responsible scholarly communication in all submitted and published manuscripts.

Commitment to Originality

JUIKTI – Jurnal Ilmu Komputer dan Teknik Informatika requires all submitted manuscripts to demonstrate originality and to properly acknowledge the intellectual contributions of other authors and sources.

Plagiarism, duplicate publication, inappropriate text reuse, fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, and other forms of research or publication misconduct are not acceptable.

What Constitutes Plagiarism?

Direct Plagiarism

Copying words, ideas, figures, data, code, algorithms, or other intellectual material without appropriate acknowledgment or citation.

Improper Paraphrasing

Reproducing another author's ideas or wording with only minor changes while failing to provide adequate attribution.

Source Misrepresentation

Presenting another person's work, ideas, data, images, software, code, or intellectual contribution as one's own.

Related Forms of Publication Misconduct

  • Duplicate or redundant publication — submitting or publishing substantially the same work in more than one publication without appropriate disclosure.
  • Text recycling — reusing substantial portions of previously published text without appropriate acknowledgment or justification.
  • Image or figure plagiarism — using figures, photographs, diagrams, charts, or visual materials without appropriate attribution or permission where required.
  • Data plagiarism — presenting another researcher's data, dataset, or research results as original work without appropriate acknowledgment.
  • Code or software plagiarism — using source code, algorithms, scripts, or software developed by others without proper attribution or compliance with applicable licenses.
  • Citation manipulation — inappropriate citation practices intended to misrepresent scholarly contribution or artificially influence citation metrics.

Similarity Screening

All submitted manuscripts undergo or may undergo similarity screening as part of JUIKTI's initial editorial assessment. The journal may use recognized similarity-detection tools such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or equivalent academic similarity-screening systems.

Similarity reports are used to identify potentially overlapping text and sources that require editorial examination. The screening process is intended to support editorial judgment rather than replace it.

Important: A similarity percentage is not, by itself, proof of plagiarism. Editors consider the source, context, location, citation, quotation, technical terminology, methodology, and substantive nature of the identified overlap.

Similarity Threshold

JUIKTI applies the following similarity screening standards to manuscripts submitted for consideration:

<15%

Overall Similarity

The overall similarity score should be below 15%.

<3%

Single-Source Similarity

Similarity from any individual source should be below 3%.

Editorial Review: A manuscript with an overall similarity of 15% or higher, or similarity of 3% or higher from a single source, may be returned to the authors for clarification, revision, and/or further editorial assessment before proceeding to peer review.

These thresholds are editorial screening criteria and should not be interpreted as an automatic determination of plagiarism. The final editorial decision is based on the nature, context, source, attribution, and significance of the detected similarities.

Contextual Assessment of Similarity

Similarity reports may identify legitimate matches that do not constitute plagiarism. Where technically possible, the editorial team may consider or exclude appropriate and non-substantive matches such as:

  • Properly cited direct quotations.
  • Reference lists and bibliographic information.
  • Standard technical terminology and commonly used scholarly expressions.
  • Mathematical equations, formulas, symbols, and standard notation.
  • Names of software, programming languages, algorithms, datasets, frameworks, standards, and technical tools.
  • Standard methodological terminology that cannot reasonably be rewritten without changing its technical meaning.
  • Other legitimate matches that, following editorial assessment, do not indicate inappropriate appropriation of another author's intellectual work.
Important: Authors remain responsible for properly citing and attributing all sources, regardless of the similarity percentage reported by a similarity-detection system.

Plagiarism Screening Process

01

Submission

The manuscript is submitted through the JUIKTI OJS platform.

02

Screening

Similarity and research-integrity checks are performed.

03

Assessment

Editors assess the sources, context, and significance of detected similarities.

04

Decision

The editor determines the appropriate editorial action.

Author Responsibilities

✓ Cite all sources appropriately.
✓ Use quotation marks for directly quoted material where appropriate.
✓ Clearly distinguish original contributions from previous research.
✓ Obtain permission for copyrighted material where required.
✓ Disclose relevant previous publications or overlapping manuscripts.
✓ Ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously under review elsewhere.
✓ Revise passages that contain inappropriate textual overlap.

Artificial Intelligence and Plagiarism

The use of artificial intelligence or generative AI tools does not remove the author's responsibility for originality, accuracy, attribution, confidentiality, and research integrity.

Authors must critically review and verify AI-assisted text, references, quotations, data, images, code, translations, and other outputs before submission.

Where required by the journal's AI Ethics and Procedure, material use of generative AI should be appropriately disclosed.

Editorial Actions

Where inappropriate overlap or suspected plagiarism is identified, JUIKTI may take one or more of the following actions depending on the circumstances and available evidence:

Request for Clarification
Authors may be asked to explain identified similarities and provide supporting information.
Revision
The manuscript may be returned for correction of attribution, citation, paraphrasing, or other issues.
Additional Screening
The editorial team may conduct further similarity or integrity checks.
Rejection
A manuscript may be rejected when serious plagiarism or other misconduct is established.
Post-Publication Action
Published articles may be corrected, investigated, or retracted when serious ethical problems are subsequently confirmed.
Notification
Where appropriate, relevant institutions or parties may be contacted in accordance with publication-ethics procedures.

Serious Cases of Plagiarism

If substantial plagiarism or other serious research misconduct is suspected, JUIKTI may conduct a formal investigation and request relevant explanations, documentation, or supporting information from the authors and, where appropriate, their affiliated institution.

Confirmed misconduct may result in rejection, withdrawal, correction, retraction, notification of relevant parties, or other appropriate editorial action consistent with applicable publication-ethics principles.

Plagiarism Discovered After Publication

If plagiarism or serious publication misconduct is discovered after publication, JUIKTI will assess the evidence and determine the appropriate action to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

Depending on the severity and nature of the case, an article may receive a correction, editorial notice, expression of concern, or retraction.

Where appropriate, relevant changes will be documented transparently on the journal platform and associated article metadata.

Confidentiality and Fair Assessment

Similarity reports and allegations of plagiarism are handled confidentially and assessed fairly.

JUIKTI does not make conclusions based solely on automated similarity scores. Editorial decisions consider the evidence, context, source, attribution, and explanations available during the editorial process.

Author Response and Appeal

Authors may provide clarification or evidence concerning a similarity finding when requested by the editorial team.

If an author believes that an editorial decision concerning plagiarism or similarity screening was made in error, the author may submit an appeal in accordance with JUIKTI's editorial procedures. Appeals should provide specific evidence and a clear explanation of the issue.

Responsibilities of Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers and editors are expected to report or consider suspected plagiarism, inappropriate text reuse, duplicate publication, and other forms of publication misconduct when identified during the review process.

Similarity reports, manuscript files, reviewer comments, and allegations of misconduct must be handled confidentially and should not be disclosed to unauthorized parties.

Commitment to Academic Integrity

JUIKTI is committed to protecting originality, transparency, and integrity throughout the scholarly publishing process. All authors, reviewers, editors, and publishing personnel are expected to uphold responsible research and publication practices.
