AI Ethics & Procedure
AI Ethics and Procedure
JUIKTI recognizes the responsible use of artificial intelligence and generative AI while maintaining human accountability, research integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and scholarly quality.
Policy Statement
JUIKTI – Jurnal Ilmu Komputer dan Teknik Informatika permits the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools in research and manuscript preparation, provided that such use does not compromise academic integrity, originality, confidentiality, or the reliability of scholarly communication.
Authors, reviewers, and editors remain fully responsible for their decisions, judgments, statements, data, analysis, and published content. AI systems cannot assume authorship or editorial responsibility.
Core Principles
Human Accountability
Humans remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical implications of research and published content.
Transparency
Material use of AI should be disclosed when it contributes meaningfully to the research or manuscript preparation.
Research Integrity
AI use must not result in fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, manipulated evidence, or misleading scholarly claims.
1. AI Use by Authors
Authors may use AI tools to assist with certain aspects of research and manuscript preparation, provided that the use is responsible and does not replace the authors' intellectual responsibility.
Examples of potentially acceptable uses include:
AI Uses Requiring Particular Caution
Authors must not rely on AI-generated material without appropriate human verification. Particular caution is required when AI is used to:
- Generate or modify research data, experimental results, or evidence.
- Generate references or citations that have not been independently verified.
- Produce factual claims without checking their accuracy and sources.
- Generate images, figures, tables, or datasets that may misrepresent research findings.
- Conceal substantial AI-generated contributions from editors or readers.
- Process confidential, unpublished, personal, or sensitive information through AI systems without appropriate authorization.
2. AI Cannot Be an Author
Artificial intelligence tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to JUIKTI.
Authorship requires human accountability for the work, including responsibility for its content, integrity, interpretation, and response to questions concerning the research.
3. AI Disclosure Procedure
When AI or generative AI has materially contributed to the preparation of a manuscript, authors should disclose its use during submission.
Identify the AI tool used.
Describe how the tool was used.
Verify all AI-assisted content.
Provide appropriate disclosure.
Recommended AI Disclosure Statement
Authors may use the following format where applicable:
4. Confidentiality and Data Protection
Authors, reviewers, and editors must protect confidential manuscript information and unpublished research data.
Reviewers and editors should not upload confidential manuscripts, unpublished research findings, personal data, or other sensitive information into external AI systems when doing so could compromise confidentiality or violate applicable policies.
5. AI Use by Reviewers
Reviewers are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts assigned to them.
Reviewers should not submit confidential manuscript content to public or third-party AI systems where the use could disclose the manuscript, author information, unpublished results, or other confidential material. Reviewers remain responsible for the originality and substance of their review reports.
6. AI Use by Editors and Journal Staff
Editors and journal staff may use AI-assisted tools for appropriate administrative or language-related tasks, provided that confidentiality, editorial independence, and data protection are maintained.
AI tools must not independently determine acceptance, rejection, reviewer selection, ethical findings, retraction, or other substantive editorial decisions.
7. AI Detection and Editorial Assessment
AI-detection tools may be used as supplementary indicators during editorial assessment where appropriate.
8. AI in Research and Data Analysis
AI may be used as a research tool for tasks such as data analysis, programming, classification, modelling, simulation, or exploratory research where scientifically appropriate.
Authors remain responsible for validating datasets, analytical methods, model outputs, statistical results, interpretations, and conclusions. Significant methodological use of AI should be described sufficiently to allow readers to understand its role in the research.
9. Editorial Procedure for AI-Related Concerns
Identify
Potential AI-related ethical concern is identified.
Assess
Editors assess evidence and context.
Clarify
Authors may be asked to provide clarification or disclosure.
Decide
Appropriate editorial action is determined where necessary.
Possible Editorial Actions
Depending on the circumstances and evidence, JUIKTI may:
- Request additional disclosure or clarification from the authors.
- Request correction of inaccurate or misleading AI-generated content.
- Return the manuscript for revision.
- Reject a manuscript when serious ethical or integrity concerns are established.
- Take appropriate post-publication action when significant misconduct is confirmed after publication.
Commitment to Responsible AI
JUIKTI supports responsible innovation in scholarly publishing while protecting research integrity, human accountability, confidentiality, transparency, and the reliability of the scholarly record.
